Eilish McGoldrick studied Fine & Applied Art specialising in textile art at the University of Ulster and graduated with a Degree in 2006. In 2009 she completed a Post Graduate diploma in Cultural Heritage and Museums Studies. She has now set up her own craft company: Tandem Felix, making a wide range of products.
Eilish’s work combines vintage fabrics and embroidery with mixed media using a variety of traditional and non-traditional textile techniques. Inspiration derives from a fascination with everyday sayings and situations using humour as a catalyst.
Words, phrases and everyday sayings are the starting point of Eilish's work and are now at the point of obsession. She takes them from conversations with friends, films, and even eavesdropping on the bus! She is interested in the origins of sayings and enjoy the literal images each conjures up.
The title of each piece is now an integral part of the work as Eilish is interested in preserving the language we use and how we communicate.
Her work considers everyday sayings and situations in a new light, dealing with domestic life and its dark undertones. She wants to heighten or disrupt the viewer’s preconceptions using humour as a catalyst.
Eilish produces a wide range of products in textiles from bespoke portraits and cartoon illustrations to dolls and garments.
