Sue has been working in mixed media for 20 years; she works primarily with paper, particularly papier mache and makes collages and 3D pieces. She is self taught in this medium, she completed a combined arts degree in 1986 from St Martins College and has taught creative studies for many years before training as a literacy teacher and bringing creativity into the provision of learning.
She sells her work online and through a variety of retail outlets in Ireland and England. She has taken part in many diverse exhibitions and artistic initiatives. Sue teaches creative classes at the Island Arts Centre in Belfast and through the WEA.
Sue likes the excitement of creating an object out of diverse and worthless materials to produce something thought provoking and interesting.
With her collages using the character Mr Papers (who is made from the Belfast Telegraph), Sue wants to entertain but also wants to make people think and question things. Mr Papers has been phenomenally successful, and has tapped into the Zeitgiest around of dissatisfaction with the state of things.
Sue's papier mache figures are made from paper and found objects, because of this each one is different. The figures can be customised to make them more personal to the client, scraps of significant material or a personal inscription can be added.
